The artist manager relationship is much more about compatibility than it is about compliance. I'm sure every artist out there wants or thinks they need a manager however this is not true. Idealistically An Artist and Manager needs to be complimentary to one another. Artist will serve themselves well to look for traits in a manager that will help in areas where the artist lack. Convenience is never a good reason for taking on a manager so don't just look to lighten your load look to lighten your burden.

No different than any other, the relationship between an artist and the manager is dependent upon trust. Goals and  the means to attain them should be clearly stated upfront. Set a time frame 6 months to a year is a good marker to see if the relationship works.
